I just wanted to say thanks for all the useful links on your website. You have given me many good ideas for next year already, and hopefully I can achieve what you have done. I wanted to this year but since being in the Marine Corps for 10 years now, I just returned home not too long ago from my 3rd combat deployment, so needless to say, time was a little tight this year. I only had a chance to put up a few wreaths and outline the house and that was it... Kind of depressing actually!! But I will be sure to check in here throughout the year and keep you posted. You are all truly an inspiration so thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family. |

Wow, the display is the most impressive light display we have ever seen. We don't do this here in Jo'burg. Can you all come over with Dean Tuner (my twin bro) and Christine and set the first South African house of lights up. You can all have a beer and a swim after. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from South Africa :) :) :) Hayley |

We came caroling to your house on Christmas eve we live in the area but never went down your street before and I must say it was well worth it, what a awesome display one could spend an hour just star gazing at your home. Thanks and happy holidays and all the best for the new year. PS see you next Christmas eve. |

Hi Dan and Cindy. Been a while but I had to say hi, and let you know that I have spread your joy all the way to The Pas Manitoba, where I am spending Christmas this year (where it is a balmy -28 at the moment) they are majorly impressed with the display and are having trouble believing anyone would spend the time and effort you put in on a yearly basis. But fear not for I have sung your praises and dedication to putting the Christmas spirit above personal holiday time. Anyway Merry Christmas to you and Cindy and I hope your year is as rewarding to you as the joy you spread to the world. Regards, Cy |

Hi, love your display, spent at least 20 min last year and then again the other night parked across the street and down one house. Both times the event was ruined for us by other rude and inconsiderate drivers that pull up to watch but DO NOT turn their lights out!!! Not just 1 but all of them. I was the only car with no lights on. Just don't get some people. Keep up the good work and the new led lights look great. |

Cindy: Toni and Guy here. Your display is not only incredible but jaw-dropping. We will have to make a business meeting call to MDA next year so we can see it in person. Congratulations to the artists behind the scenes. Again, absolutely incredible. Wishing you and yours a remarkable and wonderful Christmas holiday! Toni and Guy P.S. I downloaded and saved all the songs. Sharing them with whoever will sit and watch them with me! GE |

I would like to take this time to thank you for all your hard work and dedication to bring the Christmas spirit to us this and many holiday seasons! I have never had the chance to personally meet you, (or your understanding wife!) but I would like you to know that you have made a difference in my children's life. Growing up, Christmas meant a reason for my dad to get drunk, grab his rifle, and tell us kids that we will be eating reindeer for Christmas dinner... (I can laugh about it now, but it was very upsetting as a kid) I grew up, and as many abused kids do, married someone who was like my father. Luckily, I had the resources and the smarts to get out of that relationship. Now I try and show my children that there is more to life than what we had. This includes a trip to Timmy's for hot chocolate, and a drive around to see the amazing lights that people put up. This has become one of our favorite traditions, and we look forward to seeing it again! Again, thank you so much for the effort you put into making other peoples lives that much brighter! Sandra |

The "how to" info part of your website gave me some cool ideas and just wanna say thanks for that. I am in the process of setting our lights as well (weather hasn't been good as you know) went to home depot to buy the pvc for my arch which i did ask a question on your email. Keep up the good work i have approx 6000 lights and still working on it every year. Thanks again!!! Your future competition lol jk |

Good luck tomorrow night with the light up. One of these years I am going to have to come over again and be there for the light up. Looks like a lot of fun. I am not doing my display this year because I just finished a complete exterior reno. I kind of didn't want to hang stuff on my new gutters this year. So next year I will have to re jig everything and change my display. Now that all the reno's are nearing completion I can devote a lot more time to my hobby Christmas lights of course. Merry Christmas to you and your family and keep those people happy with your fabulous display. Care to share some of your LOR sequences ;) |

Your family is spectacular and I love this family tradition. Your children, family and friends are blessed to have such wonderful memories with people who truly understand what the spirit of Christmas is all about. Peace and happiness (OK, and a lot of food!!). I wish you and your loved ones a lifetime of health, love and prosperity. Merry (never-too-early) Christmas! Maria :)

I just love what you do. I love every little detail that you have done. I have 2 forty foot Blue spruce pine trees. A friend of mine has a cherry picker and that's how we get the lights on the trees. But you really get into this time of year. If you like Christmas a lot. You have to come here and go to Bronner's. It is the worlds largest Christmas store. I am like a little kid when I go into it. And I will be 35 Nov.24. You keep up the good work. |

I am simply amazed at how much effort can come from one family and a whole lot of friends and supporters with the thoughts of celebrating a festive time of year and giving donations to a charitable cause at the same time. I must admit I was feeling a bit humbug lately with all the talk of violence that is happening in Vancouver and when I heard about your brightly lit up house on CBC it made me stop and listen and take note that there are still wonderful people such as yourselves that really make a difference and have fun at the same time. All I can say is hooray to all of you and thank-you for what you do to help people at Goodtimes!! Cheers! |

It's so great ! My daughter loved it . I loved it . Very beautiful , entertaining , imaginative . Even though it's the crowning glory of the neighbourhood . I love that it's not just one lit up house on a dark street . Several neighbours have created some very nice displays of their own . If this house is a "10" there are a couple of "9" 's and some 5+ 's all on this one street . My family will probably drive past at least 4 more times before it's over . Thank -you and God bless you in your donation collection for such a wonderful cause. |

Beautiful display. I currently am running about 15,000 lights. I am having trouble getting over the 20,000 light hurdle. I am going to add 16 channels of computer animation this year. Hopefully in the next couple of years I will also go to total computer animation. How do you change the colors of your lights when you animate them. Do you wrap different colors on the same surface? Thanks for your information on how to build the arch. I am thinking about adding that this year. Thanks for your help. |

I seem to of lost the info. My husband is an electrician named Sparky and is quite intelligent when it comes to electronics any help on this lighting technique and were to get the cheapest possible parts would be great help. We have already started our display this year as time is short for us with me having surgery coming up so I am getting a bee under his bonnet and tool pouch to get it done before hand any advice or suggestions would be great help he says I need to help by finding the info you sent last Christmas. Thanks again Cindy and Sparky |

Enjoyed viewing your site. Thanks for the effort to brighten lives (literally and figuratively). Thanks especially for the "how-to" section. I'm thinking of animating a display for Christmas 2007 but have very limited space living in a townhome. The lit arches and mini-trees would work in my micro-yard. |

Still enjoyed your display, but have a question. Why do you turn off your lights so early? The 12 Days of Christmas start on Dec 25th and end on Jan 6th (Epiphany Sunday, aka 3 Kings' Day). I usually try to light up on the weekend following Thanksgiving here in the U.S., since that is usually the 1st Sunday in Advent, and don't even think of taking down until the Sunday following New Year's Day. Well, anyhow, something to think about. Still, I did love your display (and site) Shawn |

Truly amazing. My youngest son was not thrilled about going out to look at Christmas lights, but we go every year. When we pulled up to your home and I turned on the music, we were all amazed, even a jaded 13 year old. He made a point of telling me that he is so glad he went. Thanks so much for putting so much effort in to your beautiful display. I have told everyone about it, and will be looking forward to next year. |

Being able to set up the board that you have. So, Dad says electrical engineer, I say no. So, just exactly what type of work do you do, when your not working on Christmas lights? BTW.......Love the site and your lights are AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Reply: Well, you win. I work for a telecommunications company on the network side of things. If I could do the lights for a living though, I would. :-) |

Hi! Only over the seas people seem to have ideas to raise funds for helping others. I admire you. But the reason why I write these lines is that I was searching for some information about my cousins i Canada - and suddenly I saw Joan Lagerstrom Bell, who is one. I received a X-mas card from her today in which she mentioned that I can contact her by e-mail. However, she didn't write any address. Do you possibly know her, and maybe also her e-mail address. I would be very grateful if you can help me. I do hope you have a Merry Christmas and also wish you a Happy New Year. Margaretha in Finland |

Wow!! Your Christmas display is an inspiration!! I myself, with the help of my family put up a huge Christmas light display, many people say I'm crazy or obsessed!! but i love it, seeing all the smiling faces. I wasn't going to put up my display this year, as you know its a lot! of work.. and at my house arguments... since it takes so long. But i found looking at others displays it motivates me to continue on and share Christmas with the rest of Sydney!! I myself have been buying lights since i was about 15, 10 years on!! its continue on in with great speed, when i think i can't possibly have any more lights, there is always room for more... my dad tells me that the roof space for storage is full, and can't fit anymore, but the shed is now its second home. I honestly love your 20foot Christmas tree, my brother wants to build one, and i think God help us!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless Angela |

Well, I saw you on CTV and was wowed. Then I came to your site, laughed, teared a little in memory to my childhood, and thought this man is a miracle worker! You deserve a medal. So does your wife! Think of all the football you are missing, never mind the sleep, worrying about making it to deadline! My husband is resisting my desire to go this route... but there is just something magical about the lights and it brings so much joy to other people how can one not do it... Happy to come and help you next year in the driving rain cause if I can't do my own I'd be happy to help someone else.. and I'll drag the husband with me... whose pretty handy with this kind of thing...and who underneath it all ...loves it! A very Merry Christmas to you and your family... I already donated to BC Childrens because I work there, but I will keep you in mind for next year and would love to deliver a cheque in person. Thank you for restoring my faith in the meaning of Christmas and the "light" that it brings on the world. Julie Cullen |

Good evening! Just saw your 'lighting up' story on CTV (Victoria) late news tonight... Sat. Dec.03, 2005. Gooder effort!!! "Zoinks". All the best of the season to you and yours. I, myself due to working abroad, will not be home for x-mas again this year. But it's great to see folks "Gettin' er done!". I will pass this URL along to my friends so they can check your site out. Take care, Austin |

I saw your display on the channel 9 news this evening. Good use of your computer and electrical skills. The display looks great. As to the question the reported ask "are you nuts" I'd have to say a very impulsive and determined but not nuts. However if everyone thinks your nuts its clearly something that you got from your mom and not your brothers or sister. Reply: LOL |

Just saw you on TV and went to check out your website. I think what you are doing is great and to help the Cancer Society and Camp Goodtimes with donations from people that visit your house. All the best to you and yours. It seems the spirit of Christmas has been lost but for the beautiful decorating and all the work you do to donate to the cancer society - makes it all worth while and the spirit comes back. Kudos to you. |

What a great display, I was just surfing for ideas and how to go about when I stumble across your display. This is my second week trying to get started and surfing on south African engines brought me to nowhere not even something to start with, so I'm starting with scratch, there are no shops that sell or stock heavy duty Christmas lights and outdoor decorations. I started last year with a small decoration of outside lights and this year. I would have loved to do it bigger but time is running out so I will start real early next year and search where to start. I will like to keep in touch and I hope all the success for you and your family for 2006. Have a grrrr8 Christmas and a happy new year |

What a setup! I took your arch idea and made some modifications. We used 1 1/4 pipe, (thanks for the math refresher) and bought T's to connect the arches at the top and along the bottom. Used the rebar, works great. We used net lights (16 sets) and covered it completely. Looks great! It was truly a family project, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, sister, nephew, nieces, my kids, and of course the holder of the $$$$, my wife. Hopefully I can get through this year without being committed! Happy Holidays! |

Just wanted to thank you for the "how to" column, especially the arches. I have been looking for that information for a couple of years. I continue to add to my display each year learning from others. This year I will have about 11,000 lights outside. The inside of the house gets about 4,000 lights with multiple Christmas trees, hundreds of Santas, double decker train sets, Christmas villages and so on. Last year I started switching to LED lights to reduce power consumption as I added new animation displays (10), inflatables (4) static displays (5). For 2005 I have added a 4 foot high PVC fence around part of the yard (80 feet long) which will be lighted with white LED's, lighted wreaths and candy canes. This year I will have over 2,000 feet of LED light strands on the house. I do all the work myself starting in September and although I am quickly working my way toward 60 years of age I still love the challenge and the results. I don't have any family locally, so only the neighbors know of my holiday insanity. Bless them for putting up with the nightly glow. P.S. I do all this using only the house power (150 amps) which sometimes limits which appliance I can run. Anyway, have a great holiday season, looking forward to seeing it again on planetchristmas. |

Dan and Cindy, your display is excellent for only 3 or 4 Seasons. Thanks for the handy info you have taken time to put on your website. 2005 will be our third year and we have accumulated around 25000 lights in our display. However, we need to concentrate on the electronics more this time around. I wanted to computerize our show but this may not happen this year. In Australia we tend to use mostly low voltage lights, however 240v Rope lights are becoming very common in better displays here. We are very keen to make as much as possible of our own themes ect. It's been just great visiting your site, thanks again and best wishes for 2005 from Aussie, regards Barry & Judy Welch. |

I enjoyed counting down the seconds with everyone in front of your house until LIGHT UP!!! And next year your display will be even BIGGER! Everyone should drive by your house to catch the Christmas spirit. |

Loved your Web Site and the Decorations. I just wish I could computerize my Display. I've only put up 1 snow man this year, becuse of back problems. I always have a good display but it cost more when everything is on all the time. Thanks, Terry |

Craking display, and I'm impressed with your tutorials. It's given me some great ideas for my own website at www.craigwoolgar.plus.com. |

Looks awesome. I was searching for advice on how to get lights up into tall trees (30' plus) and found your site. You don't have any recommendations do you? Hydro used to do it for a fee but have stopped. Merry Christmas! Reply: Short of renting a bucket truck, all I can think of is modifying a telescoping tree pruner (they're about 18 feet or so when opened). You could put a hook of some sort on the end, and stand on a large stepladder (12 foot or better). That should get you almost to the top. That's kind of what I did with my big tree, except I only used a 10 foot pole. Good luck. Dan |

I haven't seen your actual display but I saw the preparations laying on your garage floor. I am being quite liberal with your website information and I hope it results in some interesting contacts for you. Merry Christmas.

Hey great site got a lot of ideals from your 'How To' section. Could you please send me more photos on the small trees & controller....This is my first year playing with the lights... "My wife tell everyone that's what I'm doing".. But to be honest this light is something I have wanted to do for a long time. When I was a small boy I used to ride my bike around looking at everyone's Christmas lights.. It's kinda magical... The best is knowing I am not the only person that is doing this and spending all this money... Take Care.. DJ

WOW, can't wait to see this years display. Ohh yah your display too. I am hoping to break the 15,000 barrier and hit the 20,000 lights this year. So, I can't wait to see what you have done this year. I did see that tree you are planning to put up and WOW WOW WOW.
